• What worked well in the shows? What went well was the elevator doors moving smoothly with me and lydia in sync with eachother. It did take a while for us to make the elevator doors work fluently but the end we got amazing feedback. What also went well was the co ordination and organisation of placing the actors in the right place at the right time with everything they needed. The traffic light system for opening and closing the door went very well because we were able to get ready and put everything in place making sure both me and lydia were ready and all actors were quiet.
• Specify 2-3 strengths you displayed during the operating of the shows organisation, because when it got to the get in from there we knew what we were doing. Where we were meant to be and who was meant to be with us in he elevator space, also keeping everything tidy within that space. co ordination because me and lydia got so skilled within that area that we just let the show flow and we went along with it knowing when each other or actors were ready.  timing because when opening or shutting the doors we made sure to follow the light system that dan was controlling back stage and he could see when the actors needed to use the door but also timing of the actors being in place, we made sure no one was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
• How did these strengths benefit others in your team?Everyone knew what they were doing so the show ran smoothly. Everyone was in sync with full potential to put on a great show.
• What didn’t work so well in the shows? Sometimes the elevator doors werent so smooth and sometimes chipped away at parts of the set around them,when hitting the set. When moving round the set some people hit there heads on the scaffold, next time we need to cushion the scaffold in places or put full lights near the scaffold to make sure people can see it to be more aware of the space around them

• How could these be improved on if you were to do the production again? If we did it again we should place the elevator doors more securely maybe changing the mechanisms they were on or around. Using a wooden guide on the bottom too  Instead of just on the tip making the bottom stop sliding the wrong way.
• Did anything change in the production throughout the run?not that I know of.
• How did you accommodate these changes? N/a
• Specify 2-3 weaknesses you could work on if you were to do the same role again. Make sure the doors were built in a different way. Confidence when talking to the actors on what they need to be doing because when we started we couldnt have a conversation with any of them to see if they knew the cue when we didnt or they just didnt take us into account of noticing we are trying to help.
• Did these weaknesses cause any problems/disadvantages within the show itself? The doors were just too weak to keep control of  Everytime we moved the doors they got stuck or went off to the right or left instead of just back and fourth. They werent stable enough making the doors just look ok, not perfect. Confidence affect the tech tuns or dress runs mainly, any people problems were ignored within the show, we just went with the cues and anything negative was pushed aside. All positive on our part In the end.
• How do you think the other members of your team worked? All round perfectly, they all seemed to be in game mode. Working with their all making sure nothing was out of place.
• How would you improve your work as a team? Build on a better team work all together. You can never have perfect team work, theres always something to work on like more involvement or more hardworking, or even everyone joining in not leaving anyone out. There was always someone not doing work, share the jobs.

• To your knowledge, what was the general audience feedback? The feedback from the audience was very good and that everyone enjoyed the performances, everyone I spoke to said that they didnt have any bad feedback for the shows they saw and that they thought they flowed well and that everyone seemed to know their parts and what they needed to do at scene changes and when they were coming on and off stage and that the music and lights were always in time and the people controlling the set were also in time.

 

Process

  • 20th March We had a meeting to discuss job roles (we did this because we had to give everyone a job but also gave us a chance to meet the year 2s and chat to them about what we like to do and what we are good at ) then The Set Story Board was up on the google drive in the design process folder .
  • 21st March Hilary requested that the actors have 2 sets of A frame ladders a builders plank and 8 flight cases to practise with on Monday at 10am. Ready for the actors to use in rehearsals.
  • 25th March the production room was tidied and the office for stage manager and production manager was made, if we needed to keep work safe it was to go in there.
  • 26th March We had our first Production Meeting, this was mainly to share our basic ideas and get information and ideas off Hilary. We then went to the tin to look at what props we could source already from the list Hilary had given us in the production meeting
  • 28th March Today we looked at colour schemes. First we went through looking at the script scene by scene with the lighting team to get an idea of the colours they will be using for us to make the set contrasting in colour. When we had an idea of the colours we photocopied a sketch of the set experimenting with colours. In the end we ended up with the colours blue pink and purple, then we decided between bright, neutral (basic) or light (pastel) we chose light pastel colours and the set having a white base to still making the pastel colours pop.65286172_2224995744465732_1355667600478044160_n.jpg

4th April- we went to the brewery, measuring out our space for the set to go aswell thinking about the band to hide within the set, then we had to workout the height the gauze needed to be, how height the set had to be, then looked at the spacing for actors to have changing rooms, how much space we had backstage left and right to store the props which ended up working out well with all the boxes and big flats set out to be in the stage right and small props on the table with the rest of props needs on stage left side on a small table.

5th April – We had to help complete some final elements of the set to try and ensure we get some materials ordered for when we return.

1. Model box to scale.

This was our box to scale, we had to make chances or adjustments a lot from this. If we had made this scale box with elements that worked and finalised first it wouldn’t of taken us so long to figure out how to expand on it to make it look better.

2. Bigley’s desk.

bigleys desk was first meant to be two boxes placed together with a wooden top on to connect the boxes like the one below but infact we just used one of the pillar bottoms.

3. Columns need to be finished.

Here is the final product of the columns. We made them slim enough for the bases to fit round them. (Biggles desk and the sofa)

4. Design of the doors.

when designing the doors we focused on the colour scheme so that all the set can blend in nicely with each other.

For the hand rails we thought of going with something simplistic due to having the large set fully compact with colour, if we had added something more to it, i think it would of over done it.

Charlie Myers had to work out what screws/bolts/casters we might need so that we could give a list to Jay Scott who’s dad is supplying us.

The wood order was forwarded to Mike Nelson, Glen and Matt Ward.

Easter break Monday 8th April to Monday 22nd April

25th April we had a Production meeting. All the meetings we had were recorded, I would have more notes on it but my phone had broke and I needed a new one. Here was no way of getting them back, lesson learnt.

Today we started building the boxes with Lydia Day 1 29th April 2019  within this we made sure everything was correct by the Set manager, Production Manager and Mike the construction tutor. We always looked back on the designs made and research the full team had done. Apart from the incidents of the drill bit falling out and our bad accuracy of screw overlapping we didn’t have any problems. Very minimal.  We solved this by moving the screws next to the hole we made knowing it will be secure and no other screw will be in the way. The things that went well for me today had to be team work, when working with Lydia but also making sure we were doing everything right by working along side Charlie and Katie, id also say timing because we made sure we kept a good speed up but it was also tactical so we knew what we were doing the day after or prepping to get the stuff ready for the day after and determination, we knew it had to be done and we wanted to make the team proud.The lack of energy was what went bad for me today, after all the hard work. End of the day, we got so tired but kept going, we never stopped, delayed our lunch and break. We just couldn’t stop.The feedback we got from tutors was amazing just stay focused, it’s a long and heavy process but you’ll get used to it, Mike told us that about the strength in our bodies working with the tools, our mindset will change and we worked so hard our hands blistered. We got a lot of staff motivating us which pushed us on. Personally something to work on is trust in myself. I didn’t like the electric tools, took me days to pluck up the courage to use them, building on new things to experience has always been a fear of mine. I think in the future I’ll be more confident, my process will be a lot quicker and ill of gained a large amount of skills. We always had little 1 to 1 health and safety lesson on everything we did. Kept everything neat and tidy, no screws on the floor, nothing hot left on, goggles on, loose clothing and jewellery off or away. we had safety precautions always in place making it the safest place to work and be happy.

Day 2 30th April 2019  with Lydia 

In relation to the research and planning we made sure everything was correct by the Set manager, Production Manager and Mike the construction tutor. We always looked back on the designs made and research the full team had done we did adapt pieces along the way.For example we had planned to Focus on only one box making then whizz through the others another day but in the end we used one as a tester and used all the successful parts into the rest to neaten everything up. The problems we had were problems made from the day before, in this stage of the production we are still learning. But also on the ladders when we missed the angle of putting the screws in we struggled.  We solved this by just placed the screws next to the hole we made knowing it will be secure and no other screw will be in the way or reversing the screw out and replacing it with a better angle. The things that went well was team work, when you’re still learning its hard to communicate because your focused on getting it right the first time but we made sure to help each other out just by looking at what the other person is doing, organisation because what ever we did we made sure we took notes or remembered how it was done to then be organised and ready to build multiple and I would also say determination when you’re repeating yourself it gets frustrating as it feels like your not getting anywhere with the work but in the end we kept going. We had so many skills and we were prepared to duplicate those parts to the boxes. The lack of energy and note taking was very hard for us, we were so tired but focused on what needed to be done we then forgot to take notes or pictures but luckily due to doing multiple of the same thing we were focused for the rest of the day constantly note taking and taking pictures for blogs. The feedback i got was to keep going as we were doing fantastically well and the tutors were very impressed with our work. We had a lot of motivation coming from the tutors. we defiantly still had things to improve on like Steady handling. Me and Lydia just couldn’t grasp the weight and the pressure of the drills. Our muscles have been aching for days but we knew that was a good thing and pushed us to do more with alot more confidence determination and lots of energy . I think in the future ill be more aware of the workplace around me and give support all round because when i have support off my peers it makes me feel like im achieving all i need to and i would be more determined to show that in my teamwork skills.Apart from learning how to use the belt sander, getting a health and safety lesson on that and mike always using the electric metal saw because it was a high risk machine.

  • For today’s practical I kept to what I had already researched, all today was about was getting the frames of the boxes finished. No problems came up today it was simply just using the methods and skills from the past few days and finishing the tasks.What went well for us today was the timing, it couldn’t of gone any better. Team work with Lydia and other pupils had been gaining a lot, everyone was so confident. Everything just run smoothly today. Nothing today really went bad for us. It was all good.The feedback was always being thrown at us, always having support from the tutors around us. Make sure you stay focused as the next part will get harder as you go.To learn more skills would be my main aim on improving and having everything done on time. In the future, I will know how to work with time. Making it easier to get things done on time and working with a large group or in a pair will also boost my confidence and share my skills .Due to health and safety being a must we made sure mike did all the cutting of large pieces of wood, as it is a high risk when using the rotating saw.

2nd May in the morning we made the hatches for the seats to be attached on to, using little hinges but then had to change them in the future because they kept coming loose, we changed it for them to be bolted on. This worked brilliantly because they never became undone or loose. we then made the box seats, which the video explains how we did them, this was the easiest part to do out of the whole lot of boxes because it was quick and we worked together well.

2nd May Day 4

I also walked round to make sure everyone had a job to do and checking if everyone is doing well or if they needed help.  We then made a prototype of the type writers, first we made a guide of the shapes we needed to make for the sides and the back then cut them out putting a hole into one side for the handle.

After that we then made the top with spare wood from the laser cutter as you can see in the image above. After that we made a piece for the front for the plastic key pad to sit on top of. We made the plastic keys by using a wooden mould that Charlotte laser cut and wood glued together and placed the plastic over. Then we filled that with a mould filler after it had been melted in the machine to shape. We made 8 of these plastic moulds and attached them to the type writers with screws

5th May – In the morning Alistair cut out the circles for the lamps. we made the light stands first, we just cut a slit down a plastic tube and stick a nail in the other piece or pipe we came back to it an hour or so later and the plastic with it being warm when cutting had slowly shrunk,, to fix that we made a smaller length tube and attached that to a wooden guide to keep the pipe straight. Then slide the lid on with the smaller in Width pipe attached inside the small fixed pipe, putting a screw in the pipe and two wooden side panels leaving a gap at the top so that the screw can twist and sit on the panel either side keeping it up when needed.

When we finally found the best way to produce the light stands, we made sure to label them by number so we knew which lamp fit into which box because each were different by a slight fault that we couldn’t help.img_0410


Here we made holes and pieces for the pipe to sit in and run through to support

here we put the two tiles of wood on both sides to make sure the screw and pipe could be guided to the top of the wood then it can be twisted and lifted down so the screw sticking out the pipe stops the lamp when needed.

we did need to place pieces of wood like in the above picture so we could get a smooth movement from the pipe and so the pipe doesn’t catch on the wood when moving.

here you can see we placed the pipe in but the pipe didnt go all the way down, so the square pieces with the small hole dented in it, in the picture below was needed in the end.

 13th May today we made taps for the sinks. This was a challenge because we didn’t know how to use the laser cutter. Again we had a lesson on health and safety for example make sure you keep the guard down when pressing go. The laser uses strong rays. First we planned on having the taps sat on circles so we later cut them out to get a guide then cut them out them out in the band saw which was extremely fiddly due to all the small pieces. Then we cut out a tap head shape with the laser cutter fully drilling a hole half way through and placing dowel inside placing the head into the circle. After that we used a wooden pole split tin half and cut it into the right size drilling the tap to one side and then drilling the other side to the sink. Tho was very fiddly but worked well as we could still turn the taps this way.

here we laser marked the circles for the taps to sit on. we had never really used the laser cutter before so this was a challenge, working out how to do it, what all the different buttons meant and how to make sure everything was centred.

here in the two pictures above we cut out the circles. this was very difficult due to the pieces being very small so we just cut as close as we could then sanded them down

here we made the tap heads and cut them out fully, drilling a hole half way and then we glued dowels in with wood glue.

here we cut a wooden pole into 8 and halved the poles so they fit flush onto the sinks. drilling half way into the circles we screwed the “base” (circles) of the tap into the pieces of wood that were supporting the taps to the sinks.

after that we placed the tap heads onto the bases. 

here you can see that we also then screwed the taps onto the back of the sinks.

16th we painted the sinks white and blue

20th then cut and drilled the sides on the boxes. We carried on with this till 24th May

We then ran into the half term so we came In and started painted the boxes light blue pink purple.

3rd June we varnished the box’s making we sure all the boxes were coated in this was important due to the actors dancing on them, the paint will wear off.

6th and 7th we made the magazines out of old magazines. We found pictures online and taped them to the front also making the notices

8th June – I painted the spiral stairs and then the black stairs white. Topping up any missed spots.

• Schedule

When we had a schedule for the first couple of weeks we didnt stick to the schedule. We had a strict schedule for show week which was extremely important. We had no problems following this.

Alot of what I did with the set, we had to change and experiment with it. For example to size of the boxes, the height and mechanism of the light feature, the type writers were difficult too because they kept getting jammed or broken.
• Meeting notes

As an assistant production manager it impacted me alot, having a lot to take in. I did have notes but they were on my old phone and cant get any back. With the boxes we had to alter from the meetings were timing of them being done. We spent our lunch and break times making things work.

• Health & Safety Whenever we did anything in construction we had to have a lesson on the health and safety. For example on the belt sander, to always wear goggles because wood and metal or plastic can fly off into your eyes, don’t wear any loose jewellery, tie your hair back, make sure the guard is down to the right height so you can keep your fingers safe in case or slipping. The Red button pushed by hand was the quickest way to stop the machine, if you needed to use the emergency stop you had to kick the push pedal at the bottom then reset the machine by twisting the red button pushed by hand.

Through the whole process you will need to demonstrate your problem-solving skills:

• What changes would you make next time?

I would defiantly make a smaller scale version (box) earlier on with all the complete parts so we can just go and repeat everything with the knowledge of it all working. The time it took to get something right even when there was a basic box made before hand we still needed that extra work planned out better because the first solutions didnt work as planeed and wasted important time.

PRACTICAL SKILLS

When doing the technical and dress run, we had a problem with the doors moving smoothly but that was on our part of trying to work out the best way to hold and move them. The traffic light system was extremely easy and fun to do, it kept us alert on the job. We did have problems with the agreements on timings from actors and the traffic system, if it was professionally done then we wouldn’t be allowed to open those doors unless it’s green but the actors thought otherwise. We did miss a few but that was due to the tech fun involving the traffic light system so Dan was working through the cues as we went too.

 

Show week –

Monday- (get in) when doing the get in we had some student in the box moving all the set props and costume into the removal van to then have some students in the brewery taking it out of the van and into the theatre. We did well when moving everything, although some delays we made sure everything was prepped, moved into the right places and then packed when ready. Then we built everything in the brewery, screwing hammering, you name it we did it. We then had to make sure all props had arrived and were in the right place, masking tape the table so they have specific places which made it easier for us to plan and keep an order or even keep a count of everything. We also had to make sure things like the elevator doors worked and work out where everything needed to go within the elevator so everyone couldn’t see the props or actors at any point when not needed.

Tuesday- we started off by doing a full run through in the morning and we were confident with the traffic light system. After that we went to pre set and reset all props to then put on a full show again for the level 2’s in the afternoon.

Wednesday- in the morning we prepped for the show fixing any faults which were for example adding more stability too the doors of the elevator for the show in the afternoon because when doing the dress runs it was very difficult to keep the doors moving smoothly so we added a single wooden bar to keep the top of the elevator from sliding.

Thursday- we had the morning off for the show in the afternoon. The show went extremely well with no faults apart from a slight slip or two with the doors catching but that was due to the wooden bar not being long enough.

Friday- we had the day off till 6 to prep and reset for the show at 7.30. This show went amazingly. This time we got the hand of the doors but only had one mistake each, Lydia caught her hand in between the scaffold and the door when opening the door to which delayed her in sliding it open and i caught my foot on the door which then delayed the opening of the door.

Saturday- we had 2 shows today which we prepped for beforehand and then after the shows were done we had the get out.

Get out- the get out started at 11pm after the last show . We first started to disemble the main set, pulling them down in as reusable as possible . Starting from the mail room shelves and the backdrop then the spiral stairs, packing away all the electrical appliances, getting down the decking and scaffold, and the large flats, moving all of this into the removal van and all the smaller things like props went into any bells dads truck. After all that was gone we then had to bring down the truss and take all the gels out with the guards and place them in a neat pile, making sure to not get mixed up with the brewerys equipment. After that we then took the gauze down and disassembled that. After all that was done it was about half 12. Me and lydia then took 2 mops and buckets and mopped the floor making sure to scrub the marks made from the large set.

Production meetings

CONTEXT & RESEARCH

Analyse the requirements of staging a major production:

When working in collaboration with others I would comment on how this may impact either positively or negatively and explain to them different ways to adapt their work like minimising disruption in the process. (Finding easier and more practical ways to do something)

The play was chosen due to the extensive amount of parts needed for the amount of actors and the technical challenges within the production it would of been high impact on the ticket sales to see such a complicated show be created in such a small amount of time.

 

 My role in the production was Assistant Production manager.The skills needed for this job are,planning and organisation skills, problem solving skills,ICT skills, attention to detail, the ability to communicate clearly with your team,strong negotiation skills for getting materials within budget,the ability to work under pressure and motivate others to meet deadlines and the ability to work in a calm environment. Being an Assistant Production Manager, you are responsible for assisting the Production Manager. This could involve, helping overseeing the production process, working together to drawing up a timetable,ensure that the production is cost effective (Budgeting), decide what resources are required, draft a timescale for the job (following the timetable, set times for each individual job within the set time on the timetable),monitor the production processes(being in rehearsals aswell as being within the tech team) and adjust schedules as needed either that be standing in for someone who was in a joint task for the past few days but isn’t there at that point In tim , be responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipment (keeping track of what needs fixing, whats been damaged for example lanterns as the bulbs can blow and anything that needs more, for example gels or amount of props or even wood for that matter to do with set.), be among different departments,work with other managers to keep up to date with everything, ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed and check has been done, supervise and motivate the team, and review the teams progress along the way

• Discuss the roles of the different team members.

In the Production we have several different job roles and within that we have Sound, set, props and lighting and within those roles we have Production Manager, Assistant Production Manager, Stage Manager, 2 Assistant Stage Managers, Marketing, Props manager ect. and all these roles are linked to connect with each other and build cues. Making a smooth show. If they were all working separately then the work wouldn’t get done and they would be all out of time.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH:

• The Brewery Arts Centre

The Brewery Arts Centre opened its doors in 1972 this was when the premises was converted from the old Vaux Brewery. In 1757 Whitwell, Mark and Co (“The House of Whitwell”) established a wine business on this site, with cellars said to hold over 40,000 gallons of wine. Also in 1853, a new ale brewery was built by the company in the garden of the Georgian town house and it actually still fronts the Brewery on Highgate. By 1900 Whitwell Marks’ Kendal was one of the town’s largest employers and best known industries. The firm was then later taken over by Vaux Breweries of Sunderland in 1946 and even later in 1971, this was when they relocated the offices, the town house became a Youth Hostel and the industrial buildings began the conversion into the Brewery Arts Centre as we know it. A year later in 1972 the Brewery Arts Centre had started hosting thousands of exciting and vibrant artistic events with many famous names gracing the stages of the Malt Room and Theatre performance spaces. The Brewery has also evolved to become one of the most important education centres for the arts in the North West with an extensive programme of arts based learning for youth and adult learners.The Brewery gardens are the last remaining of many which would once have flourished behind the town houses lining Highgate. The steps to the upper garden, leading to the terraced garden have recently been restored to their original grandeur. You can now also find a book named ‘Recollections’ which is celebrating the history of Brewery Arts Centre. The great thing about this is its still available from the Box Office.In Spring 2012, A graphic ‘timeline’ display was opened in the Intro Bar area of the Brewery, representing a visual of some of the highlights and milestones in the 40 years from 1972 to the present day. The Brewery Arts Centre is a thriving and dynamic arts organisation with well over forty impressive years of experience, delivering an exciting and inspirational programme, this was including artistic events, festivals and creative learning courses.  The venue is a beautiful, historic building and is set beautifully against the backdrop of the market town of Kendal, hosting a whopping five major festivals every year, including the internationally renowned Kendal Mountain Festival,  developing strong partnerships with key organisations such as Manchester’s renowned Band on the Wall.  We are proud to be Cumbria Life Culture Awards ‘Venue of the Year’ 2017.The Brewery Arts Centre has been creating memorable experiences in Kendal since 1972. ‘Home to thought-provoking theatre, magic music, dramatic dance, side-splitting comedy and exciting exhibitions, the Brewery Arts Centre is the cultural hub of South Lakeland.’

The musical, ‘How to succeed in business without really trying is a well known musical by Frank Loesser and has been written as book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert. This musical was based on Shepherd Mead’s 1952 book of the same name. The story involves J. Pierrepont Finch, a young ambitious man who, gains the help from the book How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which then brings him up from window washer to chairman of the board of the World Wide Wicket Company.

It then Premiered on October 14, 1961 at 46th Street and within that they put on Theatre Productions from far and wide;

 It won Awards like in 1962 winning ‘Pulitzer Prize for Drama’ a Tony Award for ‘Best Musical’ and then another Tony Award but this time for ‘Best Book’.

Writers Abe Burrows & Frank Loesser also wrote Guys and Dolls which is a musical involving music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and then was written as a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. 

Abe Burrows also wrote a book called ‘Can-Can’ which is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The story is set in the 1890s and it is about the showgirls of the Montmartre dance halls. The original Broadway production ran for over two years beginning in 1953, and the 1954 West End production was also a success.

Frank Loesser also wrote numerous songs for films and Tin Pan Alley, many of which have become standards, and had been nominated for five Academy Awards for ‘best song’ but only winning once, for “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”

Broadway (1961–1965)

Starring Robert Morse as Finch, Bonnie Scott as his secretary Rosemary, Charles Nelson Reilly as Bud Frump, and Rudy Vallee as the company president. Virginia Martin played Hedy LaRue. On Broadway, the show opened its doors on October 14, 1961 at the 46th Street Theatre, and closed on March 6, 1965 after 1,417 performances.

West End (1963–1964)

Featuring a new cast, starring Warren Berlinger and Billy De Wolfe starred as Finch and Biggley respectively, with Patricia Michael as Rosemary, Josephine Blake as Smitty, David Knight as Bud Frump, Olive Lucius as Miss Jones, Bernard Spear as Mr. Twimble, and Eileen Gourlay as Hedy La Rue the West End production opened its doors at the Shaftesbury Theatre beginning March 28, 1963 and ran for 520 performances. It was also directed by Burrows and Bob Fosse.

Broadway revival (1995–1996)

For this show the wardrobe was designed by Susan Hilferty and is now on display at the Costume World Broadway Collection in Pompano Beach, Florida. Now renamed the Richard Rodgers Theatre, A Broadway revival opened at the original theatre, on March 23, 1995 and closed its doors on July 14, 1996 after 548 performances. The production was directed by this time by Des McAnuff, choreographed by Wayne Cilento, with musical direction by Ted Sperling. Matthew Broderick starred as Finch and Rosemary was played by Megan Mullally. The cast then also included Ronn Carroll as J.B. Biggley, Victoria Clark as Smitty, Jeff Blumenkrantz as Bud Frump, and, when in a pre-recorded performance, Walter Cronkite as the Book Voice. They had replacements which were for Mullally and Broderick ending up being Broderick’s future wife Sarah Jessica Parker as Rosemary and John Stamos as Finch. When Broderick left the show Ralph Macchio was offered the role of Finch, but opted to take the role in the touring cast instead. Broderick made a brief return to the show so he could star opposite Parker. Robert Mandan played Biggley in its California pre-Broadway run but chose not to transfer to New York.

US National Tour (1996–1997)

How To Succeed ran beginning in Baltimore in May 1996 as a national tour which included Sacramento, Portland, and Seattle and ended in Milwaukee in June 1997. Starring Ralph Macchio as J. Pierrepont Finch, Shauna Hicks (Rosemary Pilkington), Richard Thomsen (J.B. Biggley), Pamela Blair (Hedy LaRue), and Roger Bart (Bud Frump).

Broadway revival (2011–2012)

The Director and Choreographer,Rob Ashford. This time the well known Daniel Radcliffe was featured in a reading from December 2009, starring in the revival for ten months, which began previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on February 26, 2011, with the official opening on March 27, 2011. Other cast included John Larroquette as J.B. Biggley, Rose Hemingway as Rosemary Pilkington, Mary Faber as Smitty, Tammy Blanchard as Hedy La Rue, and Christopher Hanke as Bud Frump. Anderson Cooper recorded the Voice of the Book for the production. which then was nominated for nine 2011 Tony Awards, this included for director-choreographer Rob Ashford, being awarded Best Revival of a Musical. John Larroquette then won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Darren Criss overtook Radcliffe in the role of J. Pierrepont Finch for a limited, three-weeks January 3rd to the 22nd, 2012. Darren Criss was awarded the Broadway Audience Choice Award, ‘Favourite Replacement’ for his performance in this role. Beau Bridges then replaced John Larroquette as J.B. Biggley starting January 3, 2012. Nick Jonas then took over the role aswell, acting as Finch on January 24, 2012. Who was nominated for a 2012 Broadway Beacon Award. after that Michael Urie replaced Christopher Hanke in the role of Bud Frump starting on January 24, 2012. This then meant the production had to come to and end and closed on May 20, 2012 after 30 previews and 473 regular performances.

In relation to the workplace equality has a large impact on the responsibilities and rights of what people can and can’t do. Equality affects a lot of things that happen in the workplace and helps people to keep working together. Within the college workplace we made sure everyone had something to do, everyone had the same time for break and lunch. Everyone was involved.

The above two images show how we took the shapes from the 2011 production for our set deigns back wall, also following on to the logo changing the colour slightly and materials used (wood) and elevator doors. to me the picture below looks like the doors were just on hinges so we went above that making the doors actually slide in and out like proper elevator doors.
